for you, a thousand times over

i can cross one item off my vacation to-do list. i finished reading The Kite Runner last night. it would be inaccurate to say i 'enjoyed' was far too violent and sad and heartbreaking for that. i can say that it was disturbingly beautiful. unforgettable. i imagine it's going to sit inside me for a good long time.

my favorite passage:

"I slipped the picture back where I had found it. Then I realized something: That last thought had brought no sting to it. Closing Sohrab's door, I wondered if that was how forgiveness budded, not with the fanfare of epiphany, but with pain gathering its things, packing up, and slipping away unannounced in the middle of the night."
